Ethnos

I. Athena Helena

With all the force of disappointment,
Legend echoes in cheap concrete,
Dirty streets. Lambkin clad guide
Golden and fleet of foot, my god
Disguised gives encouraging
Barks, rewarding hospitality.

Capricious guide, I search
For roots and laurels--
The lines of my face (my blood)
In the wink of a wrinkled old
Yai-yai.

II. Parthenon

Strange alphabet:
Marble monument in my mouth
Emerges crumbling. Antique.

Still living city crowded
Cheap cement (Marshall's courtesy)
Acropolis now a lovers lane

Young kids fucking
Philosophers talking
Tourists walking
--all the same

III. Οδύσσεια

One moment: gone again. Write in the wine dark sea. Proud Nobody.
